Shadow of the City is in Seaside Heights, on June 18th. This is the 2nd year for this festival; the 2016 edition features the 1975, Carly Rae Jepsen, and more. Plus a WierdNJ pop-up stand!
That same weekend, Beard Fest is in Hammonton, NJ, from June 16th to 18th, with lots of jam bands, camping, yoga classes, and 3 days of live art.
Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation puts on three festivals over the summer: Point Pleasant on Saturday, June 18th, Asbury Park on Saturday July 23rd, and Long Branch on Saturday August 27th. These festivals are free, and always a good time! Headliners include Billy Hector, Matt ORee, and Trudy Lynn.
Another free NJ festival is Maplewoodstock, on Saturday July 9th and Sunday July 10th. Saturday’s headliner is Railroad Earth, and Sunday’s headliner is NRBQ. Sunday you also get Asbury Park’s own Nicole Atkins (a long-time Backward Glances customer!)
Take a trip out towards the Delaware Water Gap on Friday July 15th, Saturday July 16th, and Sunday July 17th for the WNTI Stage festival in Columbia. (Yes, you are still in New Jersey) Acts include Los Straightjackets, Garland Jeffreys, and NJ homeboys the Doughboys, the Gripweeds, and Uncle Floyd.
The Rockland Bergen Music Festival is just over the border, in Tappan NY, but Bergen County in NJ is part of its name. This one is June 25th and 26th, and the artists playing are stalwarts of Asbury Park’s annual Light of Day celebration: Joe D’Urso, Joe Grushecky, Willie Nile, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, plus Jorma Kakounen, New Riders of the Purple Sage and more.
Every week’s a festival in Woodbridge, NJ. They’ve got free outdoor music almost every night this summer. Check out their schedule for country and Americana acts on Sundays, oldies on Mondays, tribute bands on Tuesdays, all kinds of eclectic music on Wednesdays, local bands on Thursdays, and jazz every second Friday.
Don’t forget to pick up some groovy gear to wear to these New Jersey festivals and all your summer activities! Backward Glances can outfit you in the cutest denim or terry shorts, cool tops, flowy skirts for that throwback festival look, and so many styles of funky sunglasses! We’ve also got retro water bottles, summer hats and parasols to keep the sun at bay, and umbrellas in case the weather decides not to cooperate.
