I don’t know how often I hear someone saying “I love this dress, but I have no where to wear it”.
But it seems that there are more and more events where it is encouraged to wear vintage clothes. Dapper Days are held at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Disneyland Paris. These are designated days to visit the parks in style with other fashionable guests, and vintage is definitely in. You can see pictures of past events and get info on their upcoming fall Dapper Days on their website.
If you want to travel and wear your vintage at the same time, Muddy Roots Music has a great event in Tennessee: Wine on the Rails. You spend the day in a restored 1950’s streamliner train, sampling wine, and enjoying period music. Vintage attire is encouraged! They do this trip in July and November.
Swing dances are back in style! Back in the 90’s, Backward Glances used to sell at the dances at the Leopard Lounge. Now, swing dancing is once again all over the area. Eileen’s Lindy Blog tells you where to go in NYC, New Jersey Swing Dance Events tells you where in NJ. Jumpin Entertainment puts on dances in New York, and does a Shakin at the Shore dance in Asbury Park in the summer.
Debra Dynamite puts on rockabilly/swing shows every month at Roxy & Dukes in Dunellen, NJ. Debra used to work for Backward Glances, so she knows all about the combination of vintage fashion and music. The next show is Sunday May 24th, and we’ll be there selling vintage. You can put it on right there and never have to worry about where you’re going to wear it!
